Named for the river the peninsula faces
The Cooper is the harbor-side river — the one under the Ravenel Bridge, the one the Aquarium wharf and Waterfront Park look out on — and the shop sits a few blocks from it on Laurens Street, between East Bay and Meeting, beside the Gaillard Center. From there the whole metro is a short drive: Mount Pleasant in ten minutes over the Ravenel, West Ashley in ten across the Ashley, James Island in twelve down the Connector, North Charleston and Daniel Island in fifteen, Sullivan’s in fifteen over the Ben Sawyer, the beaches, Hanahan and Johns Island in twenty, Goose Creek in twenty-five and Summerville at the thirty-minute edge of the map.
The peninsula is a particular place to fix appliances in. Kitchens live in former dependencies and carriage houses; laundry lives in hall closets as a stacked pair; first floors are raised and side yards are reached through a piazza gate; the streets are one-way and the parking is metered. Salt comes off the harbor, heat comes in August, surges come with hurricane season and water comes with the king tides. We built the company for that — and for the short-term rentals, inns and student houses that need lockbox access, turnover windows and approval by text.
What we chose not to be
We do not chase every appliance ever made. Six machines — refrigerators and freezers, washers, dryers, the stove-range-oven stack, dishwashers and the ice makers inside refrigerators — get all of our training time and all of the room on the van. Microwaves, wine coolers, standalone ice machines and commercial kitchen gear are not on the list, and when a call falls outside our lane we say so before anyone pays for a visit.

The Lowcountry, from the van
Panel-front Sub-Zeros South of Broad, builder packages failing on the same clock in Carolina Park and Wescott, garage refrigerators in July on James Island, dryer vents that run the length of a single house, inverter boards taken out by a surge on Daniel Island, mild scale on Berkeley County water in Goose Creek and Summerville, wells on Johns Island — these are not footnotes here, they are half the diagnosis. The van is stocked for the faults this metro actually produces.
