Working Isle of Palms
The route from Laurens St is East Bay to the Ravenel, then US-17 north through Mount Pleasant to the Isle of Palms Connector, which lifts over the marsh and lands at Palm Blvd. Twenty minutes with light traffic, closer to thirty on a summer Saturday when the whole Lowcountry is heading to the beach. From the foot of the Connector we go both ways: left toward Breach Inlet and the older cottages on the low-numbered streets, right along Palm Blvd past the Front Beach shops and the pier to the Wild Dunes gate at the far end. The gate at Wild Dunes is not a surcharge; we register at the pass office like any other vendor.
Isle of Palms has two kinds of houses and both are hard on appliances. The older cottages and duplexes near Front Beach keep a laundry pair under the house and a refrigerator in a screened porch, both open to salt and heat. The larger rentals and the Wild Dunes villas carry full builder-grade kitchens that see ten guests a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. What fails is not scale, because the water is soft enough here to leave inlet valves clean, but corroded contacts, tired drain pumps, packed dryer vents and boards that took a surge during a tropical system. The turnover calendar leaves little slack, which is why we hold turnover-day windows for island managers.
What Isle of Palms calls about
| Appliance | What we see most here |
|---|---|
| Refrigerators | Porch and under-house units warming in the afternoon sun; French-door models in rentals with failed evaporator fans and iced coils. |
| Washers | Rental-duty front-loaders with pumps full of sand and sunscreen bottle caps; door boots torn by a summer of overstuffed loads. |
| Dryers | Vent runs through the crawl to a flap facing the wind; salt on the rollers; no heat in the Wild Dunes villas after a thermal fuse. |
| Ranges & ovens | Cooktop igniters clicking in ocean air; ovens in builder packages slow to preheat; touch panels dead after a storm surge on the grid. |
| Dishwashers | Ten-guest loads wearing out latches and wash pumps; sand in the filter; drain hoses pinched behind island cabinets. |
| Ice makers | Valves fouled by salt; bins empty by noon in July; frozen fill tubes in freezers packed for a week. |
A property manager on Palm Blvd has three turnovers on Saturday and a refrigerator at one of them reading warm on the guest app. We book the first morning window, come up the Connector before the beach traffic, find an evaporator fan with a salt-frozen bearing, and have the box cold before the cleaners arrive.
A villa near the Links course with a dryer that stopped heating on a Friday full of wet towels. The gate office has our name. Under the machine, the vent flap is jammed with sand and the thermal fuse has opened. Vent cleared, fuse replaced, exhaust temperature checked, the pool towels dry before dinner.
A duplex a block off Front Beach where the dishwasher started every cycle with a puddle at the door. The lower door seal is chewed and the latch is loose from a summer of slamming. Both replaced from the van, cycle run to the end, floor dry and the owner texted the written invoice.
Refrigerator repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
The guest app shows the refrigerator climbing past 50, or the porch fridge at a Carolina Blvd cottage has given up in the afternoon heat. Isle of Palms refrigerators face ocean air and full summer sun in ways a kitchen in town never does. A warm box goes to the front of the day’s list. The technician meters the fan, compressor and board, tells you the failed part by name and writes one price with the $99 diagnostic already counted inside it.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Both sides warming, compressor hot to the touch | Condenser coil packed with sand and pet hair, or a condenser fan seized by salt | Clean the coil, replace the fan, check that the unit has room to breathe in its alcove |
| Frost building on the back wall of the freezer | Defrost heater, thermostat or timer failed, letting ice choke the coil | Meter the defrost circuit, replace the failed component, clear the ice and test the cycle |
| Fridge dead after a storm, lights out | Control board or inverter taken down by a surge on the island grid | Test the board, inverter and compressor, replace what failed, confirm cooling and note surge protection |
A guest at my Isle of Palms rental says the refrigerator is warm. What should they do until you arrive?
Ask them to keep the doors shut and move anything valuable to a cooler with ice from the Front Beach store. A closed refrigerator holds for several hours. We give a warm refrigerator on the island the earliest window of the day and text the manager when the van leaves the Connector.

Washer repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
Standing water in the drum at ten on a Saturday morning, a front-loader banging across the laundry closet, a door locked over a week of wet beach towels. Isle of Palms washers work rental hours from May through September and pay for it. We open the pump, meter the lock and motor, name the part and hand you one written number. The $99 diagnostic lives inside that number; say no and $99 settles the bill.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Cycle ends with water in the drum | Drain pump blocked by sand, coins or a sunscreen cap | Clear the pump housing, replace the pump if the motor has failed, run a full drain |
| Machine walks and bangs on spin | Shock absorbers or suspension springs worn out under heavy loads, or a shipping bolt someone never removed | Replace the shocks or springs, level the machine on the raised floor, run a spin test |
| Water leaking from the door on a front-loader | Door boot torn or holding a nail file or bobby pin | Replace the boot, clean the seal groove, test for leaks through a rinse |
Can you repair the washer at my Isle of Palms rental without the guests being home?
Yes. We work from the gate code or lockbox, text you a photo and the written price, wait for your reply, and lock up when the cycle test finishes. The guests see a working machine and a tidy closet. Managers get the invoice by email the same day.

Dryer repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
Beach towels that never get dry, a thump that shakes the crawlspace, a dryer that stops early and shows a code on the panel. On Isle of Palms the vent is the first suspect: it runs under the house to a flap that faces the wind and fills with sand. We clear it, meter the fuse, element or igniter, and give you one written price with the $99 diagnostic already inside it when you approve.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Runs full cycle, clothes still wet | Vent packed with lint and sand, thermal fuse tripped, element or igniter gone | Clear the run end to end, replace the fuse and heat source, measure exhaust temperature |
| Rhythmic thump under the house | Drum roller flat-spotted or bearing pitted by salt | Replace the rollers and idler as a set, check the belt, clean the salt film from the drum |
| Stops after a few minutes with an error | Moisture sensor coated with dryer-sheet residue, or a motor overheating | Clean the sensor bars, meter the motor, replace the motor if it draws high |
How often should the dryer vent at an Isle of Palms rental be cleared?
For a rental that runs daily in season, once a year at the start of summer is the minimum, and twice for an under-house vent facing the beach. A clear vent shortens cycles, keeps the thermal fuse intact and removes the largest fire risk in the house. We check the run on every dryer visit.

Range and oven repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
The cooktop lights three burners and only clicks on the fourth, the oven takes forty minutes to reach 350, or the panel on the Wild Dunes range went dark after a storm knocked the power around. Ocean air is hard on igniters and the summer grid is hard on boards. We test the igniter, element and board at the door, name the fault plainly and write one price that already includes the $99 diagnostic.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| One burner clicks, will not catch | Igniter electrode fouled with salt and grease, or a cracked ceramic | Clean or replace the igniter, check the spark module, confirm all burners light |
| Oven slow to preheat or bakes unevenly | Oven igniter weakening, or a bake element with a dead spot | Meter the igniter current or element, replace it, verify oven temperature with a probe |
| Display blank, no response to touch | Control board or its transformer failed after a surge | Test the board and power supply, replace the failed part, test every function before leaving |
Do you service the gas ranges in Isle of Palms rentals and homes?
Yes, gas and electric both, from the builder-grade ranges in the duplexes to the pro-style units on the oceanfront. Gas work is metered and leak-checked before we leave. For rentals we schedule around turnover and text the manager the written number before ordering anything.

Dishwasher repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
Cloudy glasses on the drying rack, a pool of water at the bottom, a dishwasher that hums and then quits without washing. In Isle of Palms rentals the dishwasher runs twice a day for a hundred days straight, and sand comes in with every plate. We clean the sump, meter the drain pump, wash motor and latch, and write one number with the $99 diagnostic inside it. Decline the repair and the $99 is the whole charge.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Water pooled in the tub after the cycle | Drain pump jammed with sand or a broken cocktail pick | Clear the sump, replace the pump if needed, confirm the drain line runs clear |
| Dishes still dirty, glasses cloudy | Spray arms plugged, filter packed, or a wash pump that lost pressure | Clean the filter and arms, meter the wash motor, replace if it draws high and pumps low |
| Puddle at the door after every wash | Lower door gasket worn out or the latch not pulling the door tight | Replace the gasket and latch, adjust the door, run a full cycle on the floor with a towel down |
Can you replace a panel-front dishwasher latch in an Isle of Palms built-in kitchen?
Yes. Panel-front units in the larger Isle of Palms houses take a little more care to pull without marking the cabinet face, and the technician plans that before starting. Latch assemblies for Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid and Thermador are stocked on the van for the common models.

Ice maker repair on Isle of Palms
$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing
The bin is empty by lunchtime, the cubes are the size of thimbles, or water is dripping from the freezer ceiling onto a bag of shrimp. An ice maker on Isle of Palms is the busiest part of a rental kitchen in July, and salt air corrodes its fill valve faster than anywhere inland. We meter the valve and module, thaw a frozen line, name the fault and hand you one written price with the $99 diagnostic already inside.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| No cubes for two days | Fill valve stuck closed or a module that stopped calling for water | Meter the valve and module, replace the failed part, watch a harvest cycle finish |
| Cubes tiny or hollow | Restricted fill from a valve fouled by salt, or a freezer running warm from an overpacked week | Test fill volume, replace the valve, check the freezer temperature and door seal |
| Sheet of ice under the freezer basket | Fill tube iced up and spilling over the mold | Thaw and clear the tube, check the valve for dribble, replace it if it will not seat |
My Isle of Palms refrigerator makes ice but not enough for guests. Is that a repair?
Often it is. Production drops when the fill valve is partly blocked or the freezer is running a few degrees warm, and both are metered faults, not opinions. If the ice maker is healthy and simply small for a house of ten, we say so and suggest a bag from the Front Beach store rather than a repair.

Isle of Palms questions
Is there a surcharge for Isle of Palms or the Wild Dunes gate?
There is not. The Connector, the gate and the drive are simply our route, and the $99 diagnostic on Isle of Palms is the same as it is on the peninsula. When you approve the repair, the $99 is already part of the written price; if you pass on the repair, $99 closes the visit.
Can you handle several Isle of Palms rentals in one turnover day?
Yes, and managers often stack them. Send the addresses, the codes and the symptoms the night before and we build the route from Breach Inlet to Wild Dunes in order. Each unit gets its own written number by text and its own emailed invoice.
Why do Isle of Palms appliances fail faster than the ones at my house in Mount Pleasant?
Three reasons: salt air on every contact and bearing, heat in porches and under-house laundries, and a guest load that runs a dishwasher and washer several times a day. None of these are water problems; the island’s water is soft. They are corrosion, heat and hours.
Do you work on the built-in kitchens in the larger Isle of Palms houses?
We do. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Bosch and KitchenAid built-ins are routine on the oceanfront lots and in the newer Wild Dunes construction. Panel-front refrigerators and dishwashers take a careful pull, which the technician plans before touching the cabinetry. The written number comes before any panel comes off.
